I started getting calls from Romero Law, APC a few weeks ago about a debt I don't even recognize. They are saying they are preparing to file a lawsuit against me if I don't settle immediately. The person on the phone was very aggressive and Blockedword/sentencee it sound like I had no time to figure this out.
I asked them to send me something in writing to verify the debt, but they kept pushing me to make a payment over the phone right then. It felt like a scare tactic, but I also don't want to get served with court papers. I have never dealt with a debt collection law firm before and I am honestly not sure what to do next.
Has anyone else dealt with this firm? How did you handle it? Should I be worried about them actually suing me, or is this a common pressure tactic? I am trying to figure out my rights and if I need to get a lawyer involved just to get them to stop calling. Any advice from someone who has been through this would be really helpful.
