Safety and Security

  • Review comments:
    This makes it easier to judge someone's dependability. Reviews are left by customers who have dealt with a specific seller in order to tell other customers about their experiences. Before closing a deal, spend a moment reading reviews. Any experience you have, please share it with other consumers; they will be grateful. Whenever you have or want to deal with a seller or service provider, don't forget to look at the "Feedback" area.

  • Don't send funds in advance ? ♥:
    Meet in person in a public setting with merchants, or ask for payment upon delivery. Before you send that money, check the item's quality to make sure it meets your standards.
    Make sure the item in the packing matches the one you have examined ? ✅
  • Examine the object, and only make payment once you've had it in your hands. Give no room for a con artist to replace it with another.

  • Don't divulge any financial details that could be abused ? :
    Exercise caution and stay away from frauds or scams, such as solicitations to use money transfer services, fees, or phony payment services. Passwords and PIN codes should never be shared.
  •
  • Make use of common sense:
  • Do not fall for anything that seems too wonderful to be true. For instance, deceptively cheap costs or promises of instant cash.
  •
  • Take extra precautions:
    If you're trying to find work ?. Avoid paying fees to apply or get interviewed;
    Do not show up for an interview in a non-official workplace;
    Do your homework and verify the company's information;
    Never give out personal information prior to receiving a job offer.
  • If you're in the market for an automobile, be sure it meets your needs by inspecting it.
    To make sure there are no hidden damages, take it for a test drive and think about hiring a mechanic;
    Examine every document, and only make a payment if you're happy.
  • In the event that you're seeking assistance, verify the person's dependability by reading reviews;
    Decide in advance on the extent of the task and the compensation;
    Get together in person in a secure public area.
  • When searching for a house, stay away from paying inspection costs;
    Take your buddies to a movie, if at all feasible;
    Make sure everything is exactly what you need by carefully checking;
    If you can't move in right away, don't pay in advance.
  • Before making a payment, take the time to thoroughly investigate the property's background.
  • Check in again and strike up a conversation with the neighbors and security staff. Get the owner's or property manager's contact information, as well as confirmation of the property's availability and if it is for sale or rent. By taking these easy steps, you can be sure the deal is trustworthy.

Help with my compromised account

If your account has been compromised but you're still able to log in, this page will help you secure your account and stop unwanted behaviors.

Has my account been compromised?

Have you:

  • Noticed unexpected posts by your account
  • Seen unintended Direct Messages sent from your account
  • Observed other account behaviors you didn't make or approve (like following, unfollowing, or blocking)
  • Received a notification from us stating that your account may be compromised
  • Received a notification from us stating that your account information has changed, and you didn't change it
  • Noticed your password is no longer working and you are being prompted to reset it
  • Received login alert from a new device email notifications from us, and that login wasn't done by you

If you've answered yes to any of the above, please take the following steps:

1. Change your password

Please change your password immediately from the Password tab in settings. If you are logged out, go to Login and click on Forgot Password to reset your password. Please select a strong password you haven't used anywhere before that's unique.

Important:

Changing an account's password does not automatically log the account out of WhereWeChat for iOS or WhereWeChat for Android applications. In order to log the account out of these apps, sign in to our mobile IOS and Android apps with your new password that you have changed, and visit your account settings to be sure everything is working well to your satisfaction. From there you can also confirm if you have full access to your account and control it.

If you frequently receive password reset messages that you did not request, you can require that your email address and/or phone number must be entered in order to initiate a password reset. Kindly visit our Frequestly Asked Questions (FAQ) page for more info and clarifications.

2. Make sure your email address is secure

Make sure that the email address attached to your account is secure and that you are the only one with access to it. You can change your email address from your WhereWeChat (WWC) app (iOS or Android) or by logging in on https://www.wherewechat.com and visiting the Account settings tab.

3. Revoke connections to third-party applications

If you have granted access to any third party, kindly visit their platforms to unsubscribe if you want to revoke the connection that you gave them.

4. Update your password in your trusted third-party applications

If a trusted external application uses your WhereWeChat password, be sure to update your password in that application. Otherwise, you may be temporarily locked out of your account due to failed login attempts.

Your account should now be secure, and you shouldn't see the unexpected account behaviors moving forward. If you're still experiencing issues, please Contact Us for assistance.

5. Contact Support if you still require assistance

If you still can't log in after attempting a password reset, contact us. Be sure to use the email address you associated with the compromised WhereWeChat account; we'll then send additional information and instructions to that email address. When submitting your support request please Include both your username and the date you last had access to your account.

Protect your account with simple precautions

If your account has been compromised, take these additional precautions:

  • Delete any unwanted posts that were posted while your account was compromised.
  • Scan your computers for viruses and malware, especially if unauthorized account behaviors continue to be posted after you've changed the password.
  • Install security patches for your operating system and applications.
  • Always use a strong, new password you don't use elsewhere and would be difficult to guess.
  • Consider using two-factor authentication. Instead of relying on just a password, login verification introduces a second check to make sure that you and only you can access your WhereWeChat account.  It is a critical security feature that adds an extra layer of protection to your account and significantly reduces the risk of unauthorized access.
  • Do not share your login credentials with anyone as a best practice to minimize the risk of account compromise.

How do accounts become compromised?

Accounts can be compromised if you have given your login and password to a malicious third-party app or website, if your WhereWeChat password is weak, if spyware or viruses are gathering credentials on your computer, or if you are on a compromised network.

It's not always the case that unexpected updates indicate account compromise. Sometimes a defect in a third-party application results in unexpected behavior. If you see unusual activity, you can stop it by changing your password and/or removing connections, which will prevent the application from accessing your account.

If updates that you did not submit or approve are showing up in your account, it is advisable to act as quickly as possible.
