Terrorists suspected to be bandits have stormed several communities in Katsina State, killing and injuring residents and abducting others during coordinated night attacks.

SaharaReporters gathered that the attacks occurred on Monday night when heavily armed assailants invaded the affected areas, operating for hours and wreaking havoc on the communities.

According to a security alert shared on Tuesday by Bakatsine, the terrorists attacked Unguwar Alhaji Barau, Gidan Dan Mai-gizo, and Gidan Hazo communities, all located in Na’alma Ward of Malumfashi Local Government Area.

Katsina State has remained one of the epicentres of banditry and violent attacks in Nigeria’s North-West region, despite repeated assurances by security agencies and government authorities that efforts are ongoing to restore peace.

As of the time of filing this report, security agencies were yet to issue an official statement on the incident, while the exact number of casualties and abducted persons remains unclear.

SaharaReporters previously reported that terrorists attacked Unguwar Daudu community in Dukke Ward of Funtua Local Government Area, Katsina State, injuring two residents and abducting no fewer than 20 others.

SaharaReporters gathered that the attack occurred on Sunday night, January 4 when heavily armed assailants invaded the rural community.

A Katsina-based security expert, Malam Bakatsine on Monday confirmed the incident, noting that the attack took place despite several peace agreements recently brokered between local authorities and armed groups operating in the area.

Funtua is one of several local governments in Katsina that have suffered repeated attacks by armed groups, with residents often bearing the brunt of kidnappings, killings, and displacement.
