When projectiles cover the floor and another pack closes in, stopping to inspect every drop turns loot clutter into a survival problem in PoE 2. A useful filter makes Path of Exile 2 Currency and relevant equipment easier to identify without encouraging a dangerous pause. The target is shorter decision time, not simply fewer labels. Filtering changes what you notice, not what enemies drop, and aggressive settings can conceal the equipment your character still needs. Start by matching visibility to your progression, then tighten it when routine drops stop offering realistic upgrades.

Choose the Installation Route Your Platform Supports

Account-based filters are the route for console players and an alternative to local files on PC. Open your account's item-filter section, select Path of Exile 2, inspect the filter's game-version field, and choose Follow. Then return to the game and select that filter in the item-filter settings. Following and activating are separate steps: a successful subscription does not mean the game is already using it. Check compatibility rather than trusting a familiar name, especially when returning after an update.

For a local PC installation, use the in-game filter-folder button to open the correct directory. Place the extracted.filter file directly there, not inside another extracted folder or the onlinefilters directory. The standard location is %userprofile%\Documents\My Games\Path of Exile 2. Open Options, select Game, and choose the file from the filter dropdown. Keep maintenance in mind: a downloaded copy does not automatically receive revisions from its original author. Replace it when an updated release is needed rather than assuming an unchanged filename means unchanged compatibility.

Strictness Should Follow Your Equipment, Not Your Ambition

Higher strictness hides more items; it is not merely a brighter presentation of valuable drops. During progression, preserve visibility for equipment categories that can still improve your character. NeverSink's filter family includes seven strictness levels and recommends Semi-Strict for beginners, while cautioning against Very Strict or higher during leveling without existing leveling equipment. Those recommendations belong to that filter family, not every custom filter. A character wearing weak equipment needs broader visibility than one whose next improvement requires a narrow combination of properties.

Measure Looting Interruptions Before Tightening Again

Track two practical indicators: how often you stop for items you immediately reject, and how long each inspection takes. Compare similar runs rather than assigning an invented efficiency percentage. Repeated low-value stops suggest stricter rules could help; difficulty finding usable equipment suggests the opposite. Against fast melee packs or enemies covering pickup locations with persistent damage, wait for a safer opening before inspecting drops. Clearer labels cannot provide damage mitigation, increase effective health, or remove the movement interruption caused by stopping to read an item.

Fix Visibility Before Blaming Your Drops

If a local filter is absent, check its directory and file extension first. If a followed filter is missing, restart the game and inspect the selection menu again. When a loaded filter shows unexpectedly little, review strictness and supported game version before editing individual rules. New item names or classes may require updated handling. Comparing upgrade costs on a poe2 trade site does not replace checking which equipment your filter hides. Keep PoE 2 loot readable without concealing your next practical upgrade.
